Hello Friends!

Well I hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend!  I know, it went by too fast.  But the one good thing is that now we have a short week this week and it’s almost Friday already!

We got to the beach one day and took a friend out for a birthday celebration one night and then spent the rest of the weekend doing things around the house.

On Sunday I took a drive to pick up this beauty:

It was Free!  Yes, free!  Vintage solid wood…and free!  Sometimes I have to pinch myself!

When I picked up the desk the lady told me that this desk was very sentimental to her husband.  She told me that her husband is a writer and this desk was well loved.  They were moving and needed to downsize.  I know she didn’t know me, but I assured her that I was the perfect new owner!

I have been looking for a table/desk like this for a long time.  It all started when I saw the Whitney desk at Pottery Barn.  But even on sale for $699.00…never gonna happen for this thrifty gal!  Here is a photo of the Whitney desk:

I am lucky, I have a large room that I use as my office/craft room in this house.  On the right side of the room is a desk and I had a smaller table on the left side of the room that I used as my sewing/craft table.  But it was too small, especially for larger sewing projects.

But this new table/desk is the perfect size.

When the lady told me that this desk was well loved, she wasn’t kidding.  I think the top had a few hundred cup ring marks on it.  It took quite a bit of sanding to make those go away.  But the end result was worth the effort!

Once I finished sanding the top I used Annie Sloan Dark Wax right on the raw wood and then finished with a couple of coats of Minwax Paste Finishing Wax.

I used a .50 cent mistint Valspar sample pot that I added calcium carbonate to for the table/desk legs.  The same homemade chalk paint recipe that I talked about in previous posts.

I added a new drawer pull that I found at Hobby Lobby yesterday for 1.99, it was half off drawer pulls yesterday.

I’m still in the process of finishing up this office/craft room and will do another post soon on the big reveal.

This new table/desk was the final missing piece to the room.  I love it when a plan comes together.

Thank you so much for stopping by friends!
